Camp Project Revealed

Finding Raven

*drumroll please* Ta-da! Here's the big reveal of my CampNaNo April 2016 project!!

Characters from all sorts of genres find themselves dropped into a tiny corner of the world. There, a young girl, the raven spirit bearer, and a military test pilot find themselves falling in love.

There is a place, that is neither very far nor very near, in which worlds meet without any of the usual unfortunate happenings that generally accompany such things. It should also be known that, other than a few rare exceptions, such as poor cellular service or the atmosphere not quite agreeing with one, one can generally expect that whatever abilities one has in one’s own world will work exactly the same here.
Money isn’t required here: there is nothing to buy. Nor are phones or any other such commodities of any use. What is needed here, is found here; or it is found that it isn’t needed here.
Known as “The Corner”, because it lies at the corner of all the worlds, it is occupied by a single log cabin, affectionately referred to as the “Café”. The cabin sits in a small clearing, surrounded by just the type of forest to coax one into exploring the hidden trails within. Three mulberry trees mark a path that leads down to the lake, an expansive lagoon that reflects the moods of the sky.
Many adventures have played out here, epic battles between good and evil, sweet stories of camaraderie and friendship. The Greek gods of old have even been known to stop by for a visit - and disrupt the happenings of the café as is their wont.
Our story today, however, follows the adventures of a man who comes from a world we might well recognize as our own. He arrived one day, with a few of his friends, not knowing what he would find there. He didn’t know that he would face dragons, fight off cave trolls or defend the Café from the attacks of hordes of monsters. He certainly didn’t expect that the first person he met there would be the girl who would claim his heart forever.
The main reason I was so excited to reveal this to you all is that I'm writing this for the others in my writing group. I mentioned that I met many of them in a role playing thread, and that is where this story comes from. I kept it a secret from them as well, only giving tiny hints as to what it might be. I'm pleased to report that their reaction was exactly what I had hoped. I've shared the Google Docs link with them so they can follow along as I write. I enjoy the added pressure of having "fans" awaiting what happens next.

Cover was designed with help from Mars, another writer and artist I met through NaNoWriMo. I like it as I feel it really captures the basic essence of the story, even if the couple in the picture isn't exactly how we imagine the main characters look.

(Also, a discussion about writing just turned into a conversation about teddies and writing companions. I feel this is a very important conversation to document.)

Happy writing, everyone!

Much love
~Belle
