Trap: A Tale of Cute

As I’m writing their story for my Camp NaNo project, now seems as good a time as any to tell you all about the cutest couple ever. (The Author would here like to state that she totally isn’t biased, what are you talking about?) “Trap” is the official ship name of Topside and Raven, two very different people from separate universes who met in a role playing thread, and despite all the trouble this would cause their Authors, couldn’t help but fall in love.

Topside is a little over thirty years old, and a former USAF test pilot. He continues his risk-taking career as a member of an elite task force.  Despite his daredevil tendencies, he’s quite laid back and gets along with pretty much everyone. He can be rather stubborn and fiercely loyal, rarely backing down from a fight if it involves someone he cares about. However, it isn’t often that he takes offence personally, and is slow to anger. At 6’3, Topside is taller than most, but his height is tempered by his broad shoulders and lean, muscular build. The blue eyes and black hair he got from his father’s Irish heritage pair well with the angular bone structure from his German mother. His secret life makes relationships difficult, but he also wasn’t really looking for love.

Enter Raven, a young Asian woman who bears the spirit of the raven, meaning, among other things, that she has many raven-like qualities. The most notable of these is the pair of large, black feathered wings that she can make appear and disappear at will. Her long black hair is normally pulled back in a ponytail or braid, and she has a black feather that hangs from her hair on a silver chain. She’s around five foot six and of slender build.

Of course, it only makes sense that a man who has spent his entire adult life flying planes would fall in love with a woman who has wings of her own. What is surprising is that she loved him back. Raven was sheltered from such things as romance much of her life, so had no experience with it at all. I would say that her love grew mostly out of trust that developed as the two of them faced many dangers on their adventure and had to learn to rely on each other to survive. When Topside kissed her for the first time, she could have pushed him away, but she didn’t. And I think he took that as permission to go ahead and love her. Which he did very nicely.

As this all happened in a role play, they developed quite the little fandom of other Authors begging to know more about the couple. The term “Trap” came from one of them, an avid shipper who felt it wouldn’t be official if they didn’t have a ship name. Even after returning to their own plot lines, Topside and Raven continue their relationship, taking every opportunity they can to see each other and carry on their joint story. And, of course, taking every opportunity to be the cutest couple ever.
But I’m totally not biased.
